Richard T. Schaeffer, 79, of Burlington, passed away at his home on Dec. 9, 2023.
Richard was born on Jan. 8, 1944, in Chicago, to Ignatius and Marie (nee Hojnowski) Schaeffer. His young life was spent in Chicago, where he attended and graduated from St. Ethelreda School and St. Rita High School. On Nov. 15, 1969, in Palos Park, Illinois, he was united in marriage to Ann Carney. Following marriage, they made their home in Chicago before moving to Burlington. They have been residents of Burlington for the past forty-five years.
Richard worked as a truck driver, retiring from Veteran’s Trucking. He was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was also a collector of Lionel Trains with an elaborate track set up in his basement.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Ann; children, Richard (Sharon Henningfield) Schaeffer, Thomas (Sally) Schaeffer, AnnMarie (Cameron) Stapleton, and Elizabeth Ledbetter; grandchildren, Sawyer, Devin, and Grant; and step-grandchild Courtney. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Christine Jaworksi, and granddaughter Lydia Schaeffer.
A funeral service will be held at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 17 from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Richard will be laid to rest at St. Mary Cemetery on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m.
