BARBARA E. RUBACH

      Barbara E. Rubach, 105, of Burlington, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, at her home.

Born in Hamilton County, Illinois on Dec. 20, 1918, to James and Stella (nee Harrelson) Meadows, she was the youngest of five children. Her early life was spent in McLeansboro, Illinois. Her school life was filled with many activities.

As a young woman, she married the love of her life, Herbert Rubach in Paducah, Kentucky. She lived in Burlington the rest of her life. Herbert preceded her in death on May 21, 1997.

Barbara was a teacher and loved children. She taught 3rd and 4th Grade at St. John’s Lutheran School in Burlington and special education at Plymouth Congregational Church and Racine Unified. She also worked to begin a school for special needs preschool children. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Burlington Women’s Club, Lyceum Club, Ladies Aid Mission Society at St. John’s and was a picture lady. She was a member of Knitting Club for WWII soldiers, 500 Card Club, Prairie School volunteer teacher, Meals on Wheels volunteer, Telehealth, 4-H leader, tutored many children and was a Sunday School teacher.

Barbara was known for her horsemanship and love of all animals. To this day the fattest squirrels live on Edward Street. She was quietly generous, helping many family and friends with special purchases and assisting those in need.

Barbara is survived by her children, Richard (Mary Alice) Rubach, Rosanne Hahn and Glen (Teresa) Rubach; grandchildren, Leonard (Kathy) Rubach, Larry Rubach, Nancy (Carlos) Torres, Steven Hahn, Alan (Erin) Rubach, Martin (Stephanie) Rubach and Daniel Rubach; great-grandchildren, Jacob (Mya) Rubach, Luke (Erin) Rubach, Teah (Alex) Jerander, Taylor Torres, Logan and Adaline Rubach, and Penelope Rubach; great-great-grandchildren, Griffin and Nora Rubach, and Audrey and Brynn Rubach. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington.

Services for Barbara will be held Friday, Dec. 13, 2024 at Noon at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 10 until 11:45 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will take place following the funeral service at Burlington Cemetery.
