BETTY REMER

After an amazing and independent life, surrounded by family, Betty went home to the Lord on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, just shy of 94 years old. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Betty was born Aug. 29, 1930, on the Brighton family farm, to the late Henry and Rose (nee Ehlen) Daniels. She attended Brighton Grade School and received a scholarship to attend St. Mary’s High School. On Sept. 20, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to Francis “Oscar” Remer. Oscar preceded Betty in death on July 6, 1976.

From the beginning of the marriage, their life was a constant adventurous journey. Betty had an interesting life, living off of the land due to Oscar being an avid outdoorsman. They created a home for the family and Betty continued living at her home for over 60 years until her heart attack just two weeks prior to her passing. She enjoyed the many beautiful sunrises and equally as amazing sunsets at her home on Long Lake in Burlington.

Betty was a faithful and devoted Catholic. For 27 years, she cared for the priests and deacons who served at St. Mary.

Betty was a member of St. Mary Parish, Red Hat Society, Daughters of Isabella, and her many special card-playing groups. She enjoyed traveling the world and playing golf. She loved spending time with her family and playing cards. She prided herself as a “stubborn German”, being independent, always positive and informing everyone that she did not feel her age.

Betty is survived by daughters Ruth (Jerry) DeLay, Irene (James) Straube, and Mary Meilton; special grandsons Jason (Jodie) Straube and Corey (Jessica) Straube; along with great-grandchildren Hailey Straube and Logan and Brooklyn Straube; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers Frederick, Edwin, Norbert, Clarence, Cletus “Butch”, Leon “Beanie”; and sisters Lucille Richter, Gertrude Lois, and Eleanor Daniels.

The family would like to thank Fr. Jim Volkert, Dr. Paul Webber, the staff at Holton Manor, Aurora Hospice, and many who loved and cared for sweet Betty.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Church. Betty was laid to rest at St. Mary Cemetery immediately following the Mass.

Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home is serving the family. Well-wishers may visit www.danielsfamilyfuneral.com.
