CLETUS C. AHLER

      Cletus “Clete” C. Ahler, 94, of Lyons, passed away Saturday March 16, 2024 at his home.

Cletus was born in Burlington on June 23, 1929, to Joseph and Della (nee Smith) Ahler. He graduated from St. Joe’s Grade School in Lyons and St. Mary High School in Burlington. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. On Oct. 28, 1958, he was united in marriage to Jean Powers. She preceded him in death on Dec. 30, 1987. On June 30, 1990, he was then united in marriage to Marilyn (nee Prusinski) Anderson. Following marriage, they resided in Lyons, of which he was a lifetime resident.

Clete worked as a carpenter for Scherrer Construction and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Lyons, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of the Foresters and American Legion Post 327. He enjoyed restoring tractors along with restoring and flying airplanes. He built a barrel train and gave rides to many children.

Clete is survived by his children, Katie (Frank) Ward, Ruth (Bill) Neu, and David (Lori) Ahler; step-children, Christopher (Grace) Anderson, Elizabeth Abrams, Jeffrey (Ann) Anderson, Kim Anderson, Ann (Ken) Lueneburg and David (Christine) Anderson; his grandchildren, Liam, Sean, Nolan, Ella, and Evan Ahler, Frankie, Tony, Clay and Shelby Ward, and John, Joseph, Ben, Xavier and Nikki Neu; step-grandchildren, Nicholas, Stephanie, Cole, Jennifer, Jessica, Bill, Marie, Cynthia, Sarah, David, Amanda, Katie, Michael, Daniel, Rachael and Monica; 27 great-grandchildren, and siblings, Fritz Ahler and Sister Clare Ahler OFM. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Gary Anderson, step-son-in-law, Gary Abrams; siblings, Paul, Vince and Celeste; and granddaughter, Danielle.

The family would like to thank Geraldine, Sarai and Hailee of Home Instead for their care during this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lyons.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, March 25, 2024, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lyons. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home on Monday, March 25 from 10 a.m. until Noon. Burial with full Military Honors will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at St. Joseph Parish Cemetery in Lyons.
