Kenneth J. Mendicino, 85, Burlington, died Feb. 26, 2025.
He was born April 7, 1939, to James and Louise (Nering) Mendicino in Chicago. Ken graduated from Carl Schurz High School, Chicago. He married Marcy (Marcella) Markiewicz at Maternity BVM Catholic Church in Chicago on May 17, 1958. In 1964 they moved to Milwaukee and have resided in Burlington since 1973.
Ken is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marcy; son Tom (Debbie Leppien) Mendicino; daughter Sheryl Mendicino; grandsons Joe Baumgartner, Andy (Clarke) Baumgartner and Derek (Macy) Baumgartner; and great-grandchildren Italia and Neeko.
Ken knew early on that sales would be his chosen profession. He started his career as a young boy buying wind-up toys from a local merchant and selling them door-to-door to neighbors and friends. He used his profits to buy more toys to sell. While in high school, he worked part time at Goldblatt’s Department Store selling shoes. That allowed him to buy his first car, so he could drive to work and take his teenage sweetheart (his future wife) on dates and to their high school proms.
Ken was self-educated in his chosen field by reading as many books on sales and psychology as he could find and by attending sales seminars. Over the years, he traveled the country as a sales professional for major overhead garage door, material handling and dock equipment manufacturers. He created and delivered sales training programs specifically for corporate customers on how to sell their products. He later became a self-employed independent business agent.
Ken always had a love for travel and did most of his work traveling by air and staying in hotels across the United States. He especially loved traveling with his wife on vacations across the United States, in addition to England, France, Holland, Italy, Greece, Poland, Canada, Hawaii and Australia.
