Michael S. Church, 44, of Burlington, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 24, 2025 at his home with his family.
Born in Racine on Dec. 18, 1980, he was the son of Arlie Michael Church and Karleen (nee Stich) Winkelman. His early life was spent in Kansasville, where he graduated from Burlington High School and attended Parkside. He graduated from UW Whitewater with a degree in Education and minor in mathematics. On July 23, 2005, at St. Patrick’s Church in Elkhorn, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Abbie Schneider. Following marriage, they lived in Elkhorn before moving to Burlington in 2006.
Michael was a vice president at The Reesman Company and a former teacher at Wilmot Elementary School. He was a former pastoral counsel member at St. Charles Catholic Church, current president of Burlington Little League and was a coach for his children’s sports teams. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved watching football and playing golf. He worked every weekend day throughout college and couldn’t wait to watch every Packers game at home.
Michael is survived by his wife, Abbie; children, Grant, Emma, Bryce and Owen; his hunting dog, Macy and the family dog, Gunner; parents, Arlie and Karleen; siblings, Kelly (Josh) Baker with children Madyson and James, Eric (Kelly) Schneider with children Andrew and Lauren, and Jennifer (Greg) Wall; parents-in-law, Pete and Colleen Schneider; step-father, Duane Winkleman; step-sisters, Clarice (Andy) Shiu with children Anika, Nick and Georgia, and Candice Oldenburg with children Sophie and Aiden. He was preceded in death by his favorite hunting dog, Molly; grandparents, Arlie and Patricia Church, James and Orinne Skaggs and Willard and Lois Stich; along with other deceased family members.
The family would like to thank the City of Burlington Police and Rescue Squad, along with all the friends and family that have been supporting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family so that they may disperse amongst his wishes.
Services for Michael will be held Monday, March 31, 2025 at 7 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 3 until 6 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Burial will take place on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Cemetery.
