It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard H. Gosch, who departed this life peacefully on March 25, 2025 at the age of 91.
Born in Melrose Park, Illinois, Richard moved to Maywood, Illinois during high school and quickly fell in love with Sara Mathewson. After many months of walking well out of his way to carry her books home, the two were wed in 1954. They later lived in Westchester, Illinois and Burlington.
Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was always quick to lend a helping hand or offer you a drink. He was a talented electrical and mechanical engineer, who spent decades working for Motorola, where he was known for his innovative designs and was awarded multiple patents.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard found great joy in golfing and woodworking. His legacy lives on in the beautiful, handcrafted pieces he lovingly created that are treasured by his children and grandchildren in their homes. He had a wonderful dry sense of humor, a quick wit, a love of polka music, and a penchant for writing songs and doing crossword puzzles in ink.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Sara; his children, Rick (Patricia) and Greg (Sue); his cherished grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Mike), Daniel (Jaclyn), Luke (Brianna), and Maggie; and great grandchildren Emma, Ella, Brooks and Drew. He is preceded in death by his son, Gary.
We will remember Richard with enduring love and gratitude. His presence, humor, and wisdom will be deeply missed and forever held in our hearts.
Per Richard’s request, no services will be held.
