Susan Uebele, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Burlington, on Sunday Feb. 2, 2025, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Waukesha on May 17, 1934, to her parents Monty and Mildred Ihrig. Sue graduated from Waukesha High School in 1952 and went on to attend UW Madison, where she was a proud member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and graduated with honors in 1956. She married Robert (Bob) Adams on Aug. 25, 1956, and they lived in Columbus, Ohio, Texarkana, Texas, and Overland Park, Missouri before returning to Waukesha in 1962 where they raised two sons.
Sue took leadership roles in the Waukesha Service Club and RSVP and for many years was the executive director of Gray Mare Nursery School. She was a lover of nature who enjoyed gardening and spending summer vacations in northern Wisconsin. She and Bob were avid theatergoers, attending many plays at the Waukesha Civic Theater and the Milwaukee Rep.
Following Bob’s death in 1986, Sue met Walter Uebele of Burlington, and they were married on July 30, 1994. Walter owns the Burlington Garden Center and in 1996 they built a beautiful home in the woods nearby. Sue and Walt traveled extensively throughout their marriage, visiting Scotland, Greece, Africa, and Central America.
Sue became a familiar face at Burlington High School, where she was a substitute teacher through the spring of 2024. She was honored to be the subject of a CBS 58 news segment called Natalie’s Everyday Heroes in March of 2024 that highlighted her enduring passion for teaching.
Sue is survived by her husband Walter Uebele; sister Cindy Pearce; sons Doug (Lori) Adams and Kyle (Kim) Adams; grandchildren Molly Adams, Brooklyn Adams, and Ryan Adams; nieces Stephanie (Kurt) Rummler and Alison (Adam) Wiese; and many other relatives and friends.
