Letter: Recall is a travesty of Democratic process

I was motivated to write when I read an editorial regarding the recall election. I too believe that Gov. Scott Walker was a bit too zealous in getting Wisconsin out of debt and perhaps he was naive that he could do so given his 2010 election in which he promised to pay off the $3 billion debt and get Wisconsin back on the right track.

The resulting furor surrounded the ACT 10 restriction on collective bargaining and Wisconsin Education Association Insurance choices and that is why this recall is happening. And yet we see none of these issues even mentioned in the current ad campaigns flooding the media outlets.

Instead what has resulted is another gubernatorial election of 2010 all over again. The people spoke then on these issues. Gov. Walker should be allowed to complete his term and prove that his plan will help Wisconsin and then in 2014 if they don’t we can change leadership.

This recall is a sour grapes election in which not only has it been decided to throw out the governor but also the lieutenant governor and certain Republican state senators so that even if Walker wins the Senate may be lost and thus be able to curb any further reforms and new legislation.

This recall is a travesty on Democracy and will result only in further efforts like this any time we don’t like the results of an election.

For that reason alone we should keep all those being recalled in office until their term of office is concluded and then make a judgment as to their worthiness to be re-elected.

Art. Sour grapes? Our state has always run better with bi-partisan negotiating amongst the parties. What we have witnessed isn’t even remotely bi-partisan. These monied monkeys have crammed, yes crammed, through legislation in violation of the open meetings act. Wisconsin has the highest bar in the nation for recalling a sitting Gov. and Wisconsinites blew that standard away gathering more than 1 million signatures. Our founders created a safeguard to ensure we don’t elect a dictator every four years. They still need to work within the realm of honest governance.

I like to compare our recall not to sour grapes but rather a lemon law that is there to protect us from the charlitan.

These Monied up politicians are doing.the bidding of the billion dollar Koch brothers and their PACs. Think about, there was no ground swell of support for the attack on teachers and their right to bargain. Most of us never gave it a thought. This is all coming from out of state interests.

Nope, these aren’t your father’s republicans.

Oh and Scott is going to jail anyway so it’s better to remove him now and save our state the humiliation.

  3. 1) What kind of “logic” does one need to apply to claim that putting it to a vote of the citizenry is a “travesty on democracy”?

    2) Scott Walker has NOT balanced the budget, but rather used one time monies and accounting tricks that, along with tax giveaways to corporations and the rich, will make the deficit WORSE after 2014! Wisconsin STILL has the same $3B deficit that Thompson/McCallum handed to Doyle and that Doyle handed to Walker: http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/does-wisconsin-have-a-budget-deficit-4o3s9ro-137863973.html
