Things didn’t exactly go to plan Saturday for the Burlington/Badger/Wilmot gymnastics team at the Emerald Invite in Waterford.

“Our plan going into beam was to kind of get off to a good start,” said Biedrzycki. “Well, that didn’t happen.”

Biedrzycki was referring to counting three falls off the balance beam, giving BBW a score of just 33.725 on the event.

“We just kind of gathered ourselves a little bit,” the coach said. “We needed to pick ourselves up and finish positively.”

That the team did, as BBW averaged more than a 9.0 for every routine from there on out to win the invite with 143.800 points.

Franklin/Muskego/Whitnall/Oak Creek was second with 139.800 points, while Mukwonago/Kettle Moraine was third with 135.625.

“It was funny to kind of see that score at the end of the meet,” Biedrzycki explained. “It didn’t feel like that, but we forget how deep this team is.

“I’m really happy with how they came back.”

Freshman Bailey Fitzpatrick posted a 9.45 to win the floor exercise, placed second on the uneven bars to her sister Jenna – Jenna scored 9.625, Bailey 9.475 – and added a fifth place on vault (9.025) en route to winning the all-around with a 36.45 total.

“It was nice for her,” Biedrzycki said. “It was good to see her put it together. She works hard. She’s just so confident and so poised.”

Molly Benavides won the vault with a 9.65 for BBW – the best score of the meet – and BBW had its highest event total on vault with a 36.9. Robynanne Scheuermann took third with a 9.275 and Marlee Brunow finished seventh with an 8.95 to round out the counting scores.

Michelle Dankle added a sixth-place medal on bars with an 8.925, while Aubrey Weinhammer tied for sixth on beam (8.825). Dankle was fourth on floor (9.25) and Benavides fifth (9.175) en route to sixth in the all-around (34.95) to round out the BBW medalists.
