Male Athlete of the Week
Dexter Spieker, Burlington High School boys’ basketball: Needing an offense spark after scoring just four points in the opening quarter against Waterford last week, Spieker proved capable of providing that for Burlington.
The 6-1 senior guard knocked down three three-pointers as BHS went on a 20-5 second-quarter run en route to a 56-48 win over the Wolverines at Waterford.
Spieker finished the game with 11 points, one of three BHS players in double figures. He hit two in the second quarter and a third in the third.
Also considered: Abel Wagner, Catholic Central High School boys’ basketball; Cody Wolff, Catholic Central wrestling; Ben Hornickle, Burlington High School wrestling.

Fitzpatrick added the all-around title at the Emerald Invite to her early-season wins Saturday, scoring a 36.45 over four events to win. She also won the floor exercise with a 9.45, finished second on bars with a 9.475 and fifth on vault with a 9.025.
The freshman also won the all-around for BBW in the team’s opening meet of the season against Mukwonago/Kettle Moraine.

Team of the Week
Union Grove Union High School wrestling: While the Broncos may be young this season, it isn’t keeping the team from aiming high.
Union Grove finished third Saturday at the Kenosha Christian Life duals, with three wrestlers going undefeated on the day – Turner Albrecht (126 pounds), Kasey Baumann (138) and Tony Beck (heavyweight).
Baumann and Beck each had three pins on the day. Colton Purdy also went 4-1 at 120 pounds for the Broncos.
Also considered: The Burlington High School boys’ basketball team.
Romo Watch
With the game on the line Sunday night, Burlington High School graduate and Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo could only watch as the potential game-tying field goal went wide and the New York Giants won 37-34.
The Giants blocked the field goal in the closing seconds to preserve the win after rallying from 12 points down in the fourth quarter.
Romo completed 21 of 31 passes for 321 yards – including taking Dallas down the field in the final minute of the game – and threw for four touchdowns.
Both the Giants and the Cowboys were 7-6 following the game.
