Male Athlete of the Week
Grayson Catania, Union Grove Union High School boys’ basketeball: With the Broncos hosting Southern Lakes Conference rival Waterford Friday night, there was no question the two 3-1 teams would battle.
But Catania turned out to be a huge factor in the victory. With leading scorer Brett Van Vreede – who had been averaging 16.5 points per game – held to no points in the first quarter, Catania stepped up.
Catania hit five 3-pointers in the contest and finished with a team-high 17 points, nine of which came in the decisive fourth quarter as Union Grove outscored Waterford 19-10.
Van Vreede ended up finishing the game with 14 points.

Team of the Week
Catholic Central High School girls’ basketball: Coming off their worst loss of the season last week, the Catholic Central Lady ’Toppers knew they needed to come ready to play at home against Martin Luther Saturday.
The Lady ’Toppers did just that, pulling away in the second half for a 56-34 win over the Spartans.
Leading by just three at the half, Catholic Central outscored Martin Luther 32-13 over the final 16 minutes of the game.
