On the final night of the prep football regular season, Waterford had a shot at the Southern Lakes Conference title.
It took double overtime for the Wolverines to take advantage of it.
Scoreless through regulation and the first overtime, Waterford finally scored on a one-yard run by Greg Steffens to beat Badger, 7-0. The win denied the Badgers an undefeated SLC season, and creates a three-way tie on top of the conference. Wilmot beat Delavan-Darien, and the Panthers handed Waterford their only loss of the season. Badger lost to Waterford, and the Panthers lost to Badger.
In other SLC action, the Burlington Demons ended the season with a 56-7 rout of Union Grove. The Demons led 42-0 at the half.
In Midwest Classic Conference action, Catholic Central could not hold Racine St. Catherine’s potent offense in check, losing 41-16.
Playoff fields were set to be released Saturday, but a lawsuit by Shorewood/Milwaukee Messmer has resulted in a delay. Shorewood/Messmer is fighting a Friday ruling that the team still needs to serve the final year of its playoff ban.
