Too many errors at important times in the match proved costly for the Union Grove High School girls’ volleyball team in a straight set loss to Muskego Oct. 25 in the regional semifinal.

The loss brought an end to the Broncos season with an overall record of 29-12.

Muskego, ranked No. 9 in the state, pulled out a 25-22, 25-20, 25-21 win over a scrappy Union Grove squad.

Head coach Sarah Busalacchi noted the Bronco girls had four-point leads several times in the first game, including a 20-16 lead.

In the second game, Union Grove had a three-point lead at one point.

In both those games, Busalacchi said errors hurt her team.

“We should have won game one and game two,” she said.

One advantage Muskego had over the Broncos was their height. Muskego was a taller team.

“They blocked so well,” Busalacchi noted.

Overall, Busalacchi said the girls met her expectations for the season, noting they lost to a great team.

“I think they had a great year,” Busalacchi said.

The Broncos lost a key group of seniors last year, including setter Jo Wilks, who is starting at Furman University this fall. The Broncos have just three seniors on this year’s team, and eight members of the team are freshmen or sophomores.
