In the Southern Lakes Conference Tournament Tuesday, the Union Grove High School boys soccer team faced Burlington for the third time this season and nearly pulled out their second win of the season.
Only a penalty kick goal with 15 seconds to go in regulation prevented that.
Burlington went on to win the game 4-2 in double overtime.
After a scoreless first half, Daniel Rivera got the Bronco boys on the scoreboard off an assist from Cameron Chardukain early in the second half.
When Matt Vogel scored unassisted a short time later, the Broncos had a 2-0 lead on the Demons.
It remained that way until the 68th minute when Burlington cut the margin to 2-1.
With just 15 seconds to play in regulation, Burlington was awarded a penalty kick and scored off the kick to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Neither team scored in the first overtime, but Burlington took a 3-2 lead 2-1/2 minutes into the second overtime, and scored the final goal with two minutes to play.
The Bronco boys traveled to Elkhorn for an SLC matchup Sept. 18, and were no match for the Elks in a 10-1 loss.
Head coach Sean Jung said his team was missing four players, two due to the flu, one out with an injury and one with a family commitment.
