For the second straight year, the Burlington High School girls volleyball team has stamped itself as the team to beat.
The Demons won the Thomas More Joust Saturday afternoon – a tournament that is widely considered the pre-season state tournament – by beating Divine Savior Holy Angels, 25-13, 21-25,15-8.
“When we’re playing well, we’re hard to beat,” said co-head coach Dan Lynch.
Burlington, which had to work hard to go undefeated on the opening day of the tournament Friday, opened Saturday by sweeping Waukesha Catholic Memorial, 25-17, 25-12, and then Germantown, 25-22, 25-10.
In the semifinals, facing West Bend East – the team that had pushed them so hard Friday – BHS cruised to a 25-9, 25-10 win.
Ciara Capezio led the Demons with 75 kills, while Quinn Spieker added 38 and Phoebe Hozeska 33. Kaysie Shebeneck had 138 assists and 18 kills, while Morganne Longoria paced the team with 58 digs.
