Demon girls win regional title

For the most part Saturday night, the Stoughton girls volleyball team looked at a loss of what to do against Burlington.
The Demons dominated the first two sets of the WIAA Division 1 regional final, then rallied after Stoughton grabbed an early lead in set three to claim a 25-12, 25-12, 25-16.
Burlington, the top seed in the sectional, will face Milton in today’s first sectional semifinal at 6 p.m. Kenosha Bradford and Westosha Central will meet in the second semifinal at 8 p.m.
With the exception of a run by Stoughton to start the third set – the Vikings had an early 6-1 on a long serving run by Lexi Potter – Burlington was in control the entire match.
“Solid performances by team and individuals,” said co-head coach Teri Leach. “(We’re) continuing to build and take each match at a time.
“Once we settled down and found our rhythm (in game three), we were able to close out the match with the control we had demonstrated in sets one and two,” she added.
With the exception of backup setter Emma Fettig – who is out with a broken wrist – every player on the roster saw time on the court. Senior Ciara Capezio, whose play seems to have picked up the last two weeks, finished with 19 kills, many of which were completely untouchable by Stoughton.
Fellow senior Kaysie Shebeneck added 35 assists, seven digs and four kills, while freshmen Quinn Spieker, Ali Rueter and Tay Lewis had six, five and five kills, respectively.
Spieker finished with a team-best 14 digs, while Capezio and libero Morganne Longoria added 11 each. Longoria also had three aces.
