Union Grove High School ace softball pitcher Alice Fitzpatrick was at her best Tuesday, both on the mound and at the plate, leading the Bronco girls to a 14-0 five-inning Southern Lakes Conference victory over Lake Geneva Badger.
“It was the Alice Fitzpatrick show today certainly, however, all of our girls really played well,” head coach Ryan Boylen said.
Fitzpatrick pitched three perfect innings, and also was perfect at the plate.
In three innings on the mound, Fitzpatrick held Badger hitless. She struck out five and did not walk a batter.
At the plate, Fitzpatrick was 4-for-4, with eight RBI. That included a three-run homer in the first and a grand slam in the third. She also had a triple.
Boylen pulled Fitzpatrick after three innings, with Sarah Petrovic pitching the final two innings.
“It’s never fun to make the call as a coach to pull a pitcher from a perfect game, especially not when she is having the night she had at the plate on top of things, but all of our other pitchers need to be ready to go as well in case something should happen to Alice, as we’ve already seen this year, and it was good to get Sarah some innings,” Boylen said.
Petrovic gave up Badger’s only hit of the game, and walked a batter, while striking out one.
Offensively, in addition to Fitzgerald’s production at the plate, Emily DeCheck was 3-for-3, and Annie McClelland was 2-for-3 (including a solo homer), with three RBIs.

Vs. Delavan-Darien
The Bronco girls swept a doubleheader from Delavan-Darien May 10, winning the first game 15-1 in five innings, and the second 12-0 in 4-1/2 innings.
“Our girls really hit the ball well top to bottom,” Boylen said. “Defensively, I thought we played well and we got two really good performances from our Sarah Petrovic and Emily DeCheck.
The win in the first game gave Boylen his 100th career win.
Union Grove scored a single run in the first, seven in the second, six in the third and one in the fifth.
Delavan-Darien’s sole run came in the fourth.
DeCheck pitched all five innings, giving up one earned run on four hits, and a hit batter. She struck out five and did not walk a batter.
Offensively, DeCheck helped her own cause by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Broncos who had two hits in the game included McClelland, Fitzpatrick, Cassidy Kortendick and Amber Johnson.
Johnson and McClelland each had three RBIs, with Kortendick and Alecia Faber adding two apiece.
The Bronco girls pounded out 17 hits.
In game two, Union Grove scored single runs in the first and second, added four in the third, and then wrapped the shortened game up with a six-run fourth.
