After pulling away to a 21-0 lead before the first quarter even ended, the Burlington High School football team might have been expecting to blow out the Delavan-Darien Comets.
So when the score was tied 21-21 about 10 minutes later, the Demons could be forgiven for wondering just what had happened. However, BHS scored before the half, and then shut down the Comets completely in the second half, winning 55-21.
The Demons capitalized on several Delavan turnovers, including four interceptions thrown by Comet quarterback Danny Supernaw. Burlington’s offense, meanwhile, clicked on most every cylinder, as Chad Redmer effectively ran the ball to provide the balance quarterback Jayden Essman needed to throw.
In other action:
Catholic Central led 21-12 at the half against Shoreland Lutheran, and went on to win 42-12. After starting the season 0-3, the Hilltoppers have won two straight.
Waterford shut out Westosha Central 27-0, and Elkhorn defeated Union Grove, 35-16.
In other sports action, the Burlington High School girls volleyball team went 3-0 in pool play at the West Bend Sprawl Friday night, sweeping West Allis Hale, Middleton and Watertown.
