One mistake was all the Waterford Wolverines needed to beat the Burlington High School football team.
After picking off the Wolverines on fourth down and returning it deep into Waterford territory, the Demons got picked off in return, and Waterford returned the interception for a touchdown – and the 21-13 victory.
The Demons had forced three Waterford turnovers while narrowly avoiding any of their own until the fourth quarter. After the Waterford score, the Demons were forced to punt, and Waterford ran the ball to run out the majority of the clock.
BHS got one last shot at the victory, getting the ball back with about a minute left and no timeouts. The Demons got a pair of first downs, but couldn’t keep the drive going.
Waterford improved to 2-0 in the Southern Lakes Conference, while BHS dropped to 0-2.
In the other area SLC came, Union Grove lost to Delavan-Darien 27-12. The Broncos trailed 14-0 at the half and did not score until the fourth quarter.
