Playing their second road game in five days, the Waterford girls turned up the defense and dominated.
Leading 15-7 after the opening quarter and 29-16 at the half, the Wolverines cruised home to a 53-37 win at Hartford.
“We had a great team win,” said Waterford coach Dena Brechtl. “Alyssa Helwig and Megan Jensen had a heck of a game. Our bench did a great job, too.”
Helwig finished with a game-best 19 points, and also had three assists and two steals. Jensen, meanwhile, added 11 points, five assists and five steals.
Jenna Bouffiou pitched in six points for the Wolverines, while Tiffany Stiewe had five and Madison Blair four.
The Wolverines were also on the road Friday, picking up a 61-50 Southern Lakes Conference win over Elkhorn.
Waterford forced 21 first-half turnovers in the contest, and Elkhorn scored just three points in the opening quarter.
Jensen had another big game for the Wolverines, scoring 15 points and adding four assists and three steals.
Stiewe added 11 points, while Helwig had four steals. Blair led the team with eight rebounds.
Boys
The Wolverine boys, meanwhile, survived a challenge from Lake Geneva Badger at home, winning 50-48.
Waterford improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Southern Lakes Conference.
Tanner Hunsucker paced Waterford with 17 points, while Chris Benavides added 14.
At home against Greenfield on Saturday, the Wolverines led 21-6 after the opening quarter and cruised home to a 61-28 victory.
Hunsucker led the Wolverines in that game as well, hitting three 3-pointers en route to 18 points. Benavides added 15.
The Wolverines hit 10 3-pointers in the contest, with Benavides and Justin Steffens each adding two and Blake Mocynski, Josh Kurth and Brandon Schindler hitting one each.
