When the losses keep racking up for a team, it is sometimes difficult to keep a team’s morale up.
That has been the challenge Union Grove High School head boys soccer coach Sean Jung has been facing as this season has progressed. The Broncos dropped two more games this past week to fall to 1-21 this fall.
In the final game of the Southern Lakes Conference Tournament Sept. 27, Wilmot handed Union Grove an 8-0 loss.
Jung called this his team’s “worst effort of the year,” a statement he has made several times throughout the season.
“We gave up an early goal and fell behind 1-0,” Jung said. “Then one of my players received a second caution and was sent off for an incident that was nothing that resembled a foul of any kind.”
That forced the Broncos to play with 10 players the rest of the way, and Jung noted his team had “little resolve” left.
On Monday, the boys traveled to West Allis Hale for a regular season-ending non-conference matchup and lost 10-0.
“We were completely out-classed,” Jung said. “They have talent at every position, with speed across the board, and we were hard-pressed just to match them athletically.
“My guys worked hard to generate some chances, but even with their second-string players, Hale scored at will against us.”
WIAA Division 1 regional action begins Tuesday, Oct. 9. At press time it was not known who their opponent would be, and where it would be played.
