A 1-0 win over Westosha Central Sept. 27 gave the Burlington High School boys soccer team a fifth-place finish in the Southern Lakes Conference Tournament, and elevated their overall place in the SLC to a tie for third with Lake Geneva Badger.
Both Badger and Burlington had 5-4 records following the SLC tournament.
“It was a very good game,” head coach Phil Molitor said of the 1-0 win. “The defense really stepped up and played a really good game.”
At the center of that defense were seniors Cullen Vos and Carson Lois, who Molitor said played excellent.
The sole goal came about 15 minutes into the game when Hanson Olson scored off an assist from Kolin Schuerman.
“(It was) a beautiful cross from Kolin,” Molitor said, adding that the team had been working on that particular play for a few weeks, and they worked it to perfection.
Burlington had several more scoring chances, Molitor said, but was unable to convert any of them.
Goalkeeper Nolan Friend also played well in getting the shutout.
The Demons finished the SLC season at 5-4, and now stand at 7-10 overall.
The boys will close the regular season at Milwaukee Pius XI today.
WIAA regional action begins Tuesday, Oct. 9. It is not yet known who the Demons will be playing.
