Male Athlete of the Week
Jake Reetz, Burlington High School boys basketball: Reetz had perhaps the game of his career Saturday night in a 57-48 victory over Waterford at home.
With the Waterford defense working to contain BHS’s most prolific scorer, Carson Biedrzycki, Reetz proved to be an outside threat, hitting all four of the 3-pointers he tried in the contest and generally putting points on the board whenever BHS needed him two.
Reetz finished with a game-high 21 points in the contest, and also added four assists and four rebounds. In addition, he was 7-for-8 from the free-throw line in the contest.

Female Athlete of the Week
Molly Benavides, Burlington Combined gymnastics team: A sophomore, Benavides showed last week she is ready to challenge as the top all-arounder in the state.
After winning the all-around, the vault and the floor exercise in Burlington Combined’s dual meet win over Jefferson, Benavides topped that Saturday at the Pam Beck Emerald Invite in Waterford.
Benavides won vault, balance beam and floor exercise, and scored a 37.200 in the all-around to win that as well. Burlington – a co-op squad with BHS, Catholic Central, Badger and Wilmot – won the team title with a total of 145.725 points.

Romo Watch
A day after a teammate was killed in a car accident and another charged with intoxicated manslaughter in the accident, the Cowboys won a highly emotion 20-19 decision over the Cincinnati Bengals on the road.
Dan Bailey hit a 40-yard field goal as time expired to give the Cowboys the victory and keep the team’s slim playoff hopes alive. Dallas is currently 7-6, and likely needs to win its final three games to have any shot at an NFC playoff berth.
Cowboys quarterback and Burlington High School graduate Tony Romo had a solid outing, throwing one touchdown and one interception while completing 25 of 43 passes for 268 yards.
Number of the Week
3 – The number of double-back somersaults thrown by the Burlington Combined gymnastics team at Saturday’s Pam Beck Emerald Invite in Waterford, by Jenna and Bailey Fitzpatrick, and Molly Benavides. Another number worthy of note for the squad: zero, as in the number of falls counted on the balance beam at the event.
Games of the Week
The Burlington and Union Grove Union High School boys basketball teams meet Friday night at BHS at 7 p.m. in what promises to be another early-season Southern Lakes Conference thriller.
Also on Friday, the Union Grove girls will play The Prairie School of Racine at Racine Horlick at 4:30 p.m.
The Waterford girls will host Delavan-Darien in a SLC matchup Friday evening at 7 p.m., while the Waterford boys had a huge matchup at Wilmot Thursday at 7 p.m.
Finally, the Catholic Central High School boys – fresh off their first win of the season Monday over Westosha Central, will host St. Thomas More Friday at 7:30 p.m.
