The offensive struggles of a young team led to two losses last week for the Union Grove High School girls basketball team.

The Broncos fell 55-31 to Wilmot in Southern Lakes Conference action Nov. 30, and dropped a 52-20 game to The Prairie School in non-conference action Saturday.

“We’re having trouble with a lot of stuff,” head coach Rob Domagalski said. “We’re growing a new team and we’re getting better.”

Domagalski noted the team is young with a lot of players who have not played varsity ball before.

“One of the things we have to do is emulate what we do at practice at the games,” Domagalski said, noting that practices have gone very well.

With the losses, Union Grove now stands at 1-2 this season.

A disastrous first half spelled defeat in Friday’s game at Wilmot. The Panthers outscored the Broncos 13-6 in the first quarter and then took a commanding 29-9 lead at the half on the basis of a 16-3 second-quarter margin.

Jordan Weidner led Union Grove with 10 points and was the only Bronco with more than six points.

Sarah Vozel had 13 for the Panthers and Kari Clements 11.

The Bronco girls failed to score in double figures in any quarter against Prairie.

The Prairie School led 20-3 after one quarter and never looked back, leading 32-8 at the half, and 46-12 after three quarters.

Weidner once again led the Broncos, this time with just six points.

Gabrielle Ortiz had 17 and Kate Andreucci 12 for The Prairie School.
