Although the team did not play up to its potential, the Waterford High School girls golf team earned its third Southern Lakes Conference victory Tuesday.

The Wolverines defeated Burlington 206-210 at Rivermoor Golf Club to improve to 3-0-1 in the SLC.

“A win is a win. I’ll take it,” head coach Jody Hanson said.

Emily Powers led Waterford with a 51, but Burlington’s Sarah Eulgen earned medalist honors with a 48 on the par-37 back nine.

Breanna Bertschinger and Samantha Mamerow each carded 52s, while Madison Corey added a 53.

“They are not playing as good as they can,” Hanson said. “Emily and Breanna are struggling. They have one bad hole that hurts their score.”

Hanson added that if the girls can figure out how to eliminate those bad holes they can shoot in the 40s.

The fifth Wolverine who competed Tuesday was Leilyn Nowaczynski with a 60.

The Wolverine girls took on SLC foe Wilmot at Twins Lake Country Club on Thursday.

Next week, they will participate in the Racine Park Invitational at Johnson Park Golf Course in Racine on Monday, Sept. 10.

The girls will host Westosha Central in an SLC matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Rivermoor.

On Wednesday, Sept. 12, they will play in the Westosha Central Invitational at Brighton Dale Links. This invitational was originally scheduled for August 16.
