On a hot day that affected the players and the scores, the Waterford High School girls golf team defeated Elkhorn 215-235 at Evergreen Golf Club in Elkhorn.
The Southern Lakes Conference win gives the Wolverines a 2-0-1 record so far this fall.
Senior Emily Powers was the medalist, carding a 50 on the par-36 course. Sophomore Breanna Berschinger was just a stroke back with a 51.
Seniors Madison Corey and Samantha Mamerow each had 57s to finish out the team scoring.
The fifth Wolverine to compete was junior Leilyn Nowaczynski with a 62.
“They played good enough to win,” head coach Jody Hanson said. “They’re capable of better.”
The Wolverine girls hosted Lake Geneva Badger Aug. 23 and defeated Badger 207-229 in an SLC dual.
Powers was the meet medalist again, carding a 49 on the par-37 back nine. This time it was Corey who was just a stroke back with a 50.
Mamerow fired a 53, while Nowaczynski had a 55.
Badger’s lowest round was a 51 by Sydney Davis.
The Wolverines and the Broncos battled to a 193-193 tie in this SLC match played Aug. 21 at Ives Grove Golf Links.
Union Grove’s Mari Suokko was the meet medalist with a 42 on the par-36 red course, but Waterford’s Emily Powers was just two strokes back with a 44.
On this particular round, Bertschlinger was the second-best Wolverine with a 48, followed by Corey with a 49. Nowaczynski finished out the team score with a 52.
Mamerow was the fifth Wolverine golfer. She carded a 61.
