Going into last week’s game at Westosha Central, Waterford head coach Adam Bakken was worried about the unique properties of the Falcon offense.
As it turned out, the Wolverines had Westosha pretty well figured out.
Waterford held the Falcons to just 112 yards of total offense – just 25 on the ground – en route to shutting out Westosha 27-0 in Salem.
The Wolverines managed to play a fairly clean contest – turning the ball over twice, a fumble and interception apiece – and picked up 323 yards on the ground in the contest.
“We had made some improvement from the previous couple of weeks,” said Bakken, referring specifically to not giving up a big play on defense and making some big plays on offense.
“There was definite improvement,” he added. “There’s still some things to work on.”
The Waterford running game had control early. Alex Thomaschek scored a pair of rushing touchdowns before leaving the game with an injury – from 13 and 38 yards out, respectively.
Quarterback Ryan Danbrea also rushed for a touchdown – a 50 yarder – while Kody Azarian had the final score of the game for the Wolverines.
Bakken praised the efforts of his entire offense.
“All our running backs all ran hard,” he said. “It was a good team effort offensively.”
Next up for the Wolverines is tonight’s homecoming contest, as Waterford will play host to traditional rival Union Grove at 7 p.m.
Bakken said the week would proceed as normal, in spite of homecoming distractions.
“It’s a little bit busier at school, a couple more distractions,” Bakken said. “But the kids have been through that before.
“Nothing has changed as far as preparation goes.”
