With five victories, the Union Grove High School girls track team finished fourth out of 10 teams at the Altheimer Invitational held at Pewaukee Friday. The Bronco girls tallied 71 points in the event won by Pewaukee with 118 points.
The Bronco boys, with two wins, finished sixth with 57 points. Pewaukee also won the boys competition, tallying 159 points.
Junior Cassy Goodrich won three events, totally dominating all three of them. She won the 100-meter dash in 13.27 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 26.54 and 400 in 58.38.
“She was in a class of her own,” head coach Joe Busalacchi said. “She’s ahead of where she was last year.”
Goodrich set the meet record in the 400.
Junior Madelyn Schwartz won the 800 in 2:26.21, more than nine seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. She also took third in the 400 (1:02.46) behind Goodrich.
The fifth win for the girls came from freshman Alex Goodrich in the 300-meter hurdles. Goodrich ran the race in 50.02 seconds. She also came in fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.98).
“We’re beyond proud of Alex at Pewaukee,” Busalacchi said. “She came out and she ran phenomenally.”
Busalacchi did not enter any Bronco girls in relay races.
That was not true for the Bronco boys, though, as the boys 4-by-200 relay team took first. Andy Hatch, J.K. Witkofski, Dennis Hebron and Kyle Martinez teamed up to turn in a time of 1:34.95.
The 4-by-100 and the 4-by-400 took third each, with the 4-by-800 coming in fifth.
Busalacchi noted the Ryan Mevis surprised him with a 2:06 split in the 4-by-800.
Witkofski got the other victory for the Bronco boys by winning the 100-meter dash in 11.80 seconds.
“That was the first time this year running the 100,” Busalacchi said. “He ran really, really well.”
Witkofski was also third in the 200 in 24.01 seconds.
The other event Union Grove did well in was the discus. Cole Ryan had a huge personal best with a throw of 118 feet 5.5 inches.
“He puts in a ton of work,” Busalacchi noted.
Ryan Rebernick was fifth in the discus (112-00).
