In their opening game of the season (after three postponements and cancellations), the Burlington High School girls soccer team dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Indian Trail Academy in Kenosha Thursday.
Indian Trail took a 1-0 lead 15 minutes into the game and led 1-0 at the half.
The Demon girls came back with two second-half goals and led 2-1 until late in the game.
Merin Mundt, off an assist from Sydney McCourt, scored in the 47th minute, and Tegan Rock scored two minutes later on an unassisted goal.
“We gave up a late goal in regular time, then lost our concentration and conceded early in the first overtime,” head coach Joel Molitor said.
The late goal came in the 79th minute, with Indian Trail getting the winning goal in the 88th minute of action.
“We possessed the ball and dominated the Indian Trail half for most of the game, but were unable to convert our possession into enough goals,” Molitor said.
Even in the loss, Molitor indicated he was encouraged by the team’s play.
The Demon girls were scheduled to begin Southern Lakes Conference action tonight when they hosted Lake Geneva Badger at 6:30 p.m.
