The Burlington High School baseball team may have had to wait a week to start its season, but when the Demons took the field Monday, they did so successfully.
Burlington scored six runs in the third inning to blow open a close game against Racine Case, and went on to win 8-3.
On Tuesday, BHS split a doubleheader at Delavan-Darien, and is now 1-1 in the Southern Lakes Conference and 2-1 overall.
Burlington was supposed to host Delavan today, but that game got shifted to Tuesday for the doubleheader because of expected poor weather.
At Delavan Tuesday, BHS won the first game 7-1, and lost the second 6-5 as the Comets came from behind to win.
Against Case on Monday, Burlington led 1-0 after the first inning, and then plated six runs in the bottom of the third to go ahead 7-0.
Case responded with two runs in the fourth, but could only add one more run in the sixth.
Burlington outhit Case 11-6, including a grand slam from Chandler Meseberg in the fourth and another home run by Nick Bartlett.
Nolan Friend went five innings and got the win, striking out eight and walking three. Only one of the two runs he allowed was earned, as BHS committed two errors.
Dane Helnore finished the game with three hits to led Burlington, while Bartlett and Nate Fischer both added two hits.
