With the field events leading the way, the Burlington High School boys track and field squad placed sixth at the Badger Invitational Friday at Lake Geneva.
Overall, the boys tallied 60 points in the invite, which Kettle Moraine won with 156 points.
“That’s our strong suit,” boys head coach Trent Tonn said of the field events.
Of the team’s 60 points, 14 came in the triple jump, 13 in the pole vault, six in the high jump and four in the long jump.
Max Shenkenberg won the triple jump with a leap of 42 feet 11.25 inches. That was his best triple jump so far this season.
Ross Canales was sixth, leaping 39-04.5, and Mickael Pauly was eighth with a leap of 39-02.5.
“All three of those guys are doing well,” Tonn said.
In the pole vault, Lucas Shenkenberg was third, clearing 11-00, while Greg Vogt and Cody Mather tied for fifth at 10-00. For Vogt, that was a new personal record.
Skylar VanDusseldorp was fourth in the high jump (5-08) and Canales seventh (5-08).
Junior Miranda was fifth in the long jump (19-04.5).
Pauly, a foreign exchange student from Belgium, was second in the 800 with a time of 2:02.38.
“Mickael’s been running really well in the 800,” Tonn said, adding that Pauly is “very talented, very focused” and “very willing to try just about anything.”
The 4-by-400 relay team of Canales, Zach Wawrzyniakowski, Noah Strohm and Pauly was fourth in 3:36.51.
“Their times are dropping,” Tonn noted. “Zach had a real nice split.”

The girls’ squad was fifth with 55.5 points, with Arrowhead taking the top spot with 197.5 points.
Kaysie Shebeneck led the Demon girls with a second-place finish in the shot put and a fourth place in the high jump. Shebeneck threw the shot put 34-08, and cleared 4-08 in the high jump.
