A second-place finish by Cassy Goodrich and a fifth-place finish from Madelyn Schwartz led Union Grove to a 12th-place finish at the Wisconsin Track and Field Association’s State Indoor Championships held Saturday at UW-Whitewater.
Goodrich was second in the 400-meter dash, turning in a time of 59.23 seconds. That time was over one-half second faster than her previous best time this spring.
Schwartz was fifth in the 800. She was clocked in 2:21.70, which was 4.5 seconds better than her previous best so far this spring.
Those finishes accounted for all of the Bronco girls’ 12 points in the event that features more than 50 teams.
Goodrich also competed in the 55-meter dash. She qualified for the semi-finals, but not for the finals. Her time of 7.64 seconds was 13th fastest among the more than 100 competitors.
The only other Bronco girl who participated in the event was Alex Goodrich. She competed in the long jump and the 55-meter hurdles.
The Bronco boys did not score any points. Dennis Hebron and Andy Hatch ran in the 55-meter dash, Kyle Martinez in the 400, and Joe Veselik in the 55-meter hurdles.
J.K. Witkofski, Ryan Mevis, Hebron and Hatch joined together in the 4-by-200 relay.
Both squads competed in the Badger Quad held at Lake Geneva Thursday.
On Saturday, April 13, the Broncos will participate in the Milwaukee Lutheran Invitational.
Next week, the Southern Lakes Conference Relays will be held at Elkhorn on Monday, April 15.
On Friday, April 19, Union Grove will participate in the Whitewater Invitational.
