Even though the team lost a Southern Lakes Conference meet to Whitewater, the Waterford High School gymnastics squad had its highest score of the season Jan. 8.

The Wolverine girls tallied 117.95 points, with Whitewater scoring 126.20 points.

Sam Dziak had a solid day, winning the bars, tying for second in the vault and floor, finishing third in the beam, and second in the all-around.

Head coach Carrie Buelow noted that Dziak had a solid performance on the bars to score an 8.10.

“She added some new skills and it was a really nice routine,” Buelow said.

Buelow added that Dziak failed to hit her landing on the vault, and had a couple of falls on the beam.

“She would have won the beam if she would have stayed on,” Buelow said.

Samantha Jahnke tied for third on the floor, to give the Wolverines a second and a third in that event.

“Sam is a pretty solid competitor on the floor,” Buelow said. “She does a nice routine for the difficulty level she has.”

Next week, the gymnasts will host Jefferson in a dual meet on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 26, the girls will participate in the Madison Memorial Invitational.
