The Burlington Combined gymnastics team didn’t have a perfect day Saturday at the Nordy Invite – and it cost them the team title.
That said, it was still a mostly brilliant day for the squad.
“I had to come back and look, because I didn’t remember our high,” Biedrzycki said. “We feel good about that, because we know what the potential is.
“We could easily find over two points in obvious errors,” she added. “We hope in the next week or so, we can quit saying that.”
Burlington counted a pair of falls on the balance beam, and mistakes on the uneven bars and floor, which put them behind Franklin Combined, 149.425 to 148.45.
The two squads have been averaging between 7-9 points above any other team in the state this year, and Kenosha Combined continued that trend Saturday, finishing a distant third with 140.125.
As has also been the norm, Burlington Combined had three all-arounders in the top four places. Molly Benavides won the all-around with a score of 37.625, while Bailey Fitzpatrick was second with 37.575 and Jenna Fitzpatrick fourth with 37.30.
Benavides also won vault (9.675) and floor (9.65) and was second on beam (9.30), while Bailey Fitzpatrick won the uneven bars with a 9.60, was seventh on vault with a 9.325 and third on floor with a 9.55. Jenna Fitzpatrick was second on vault (9.525), second on bars (9.55) and fourth on floor (9.45).
But both Fitzpatricks fell off the beam, and Benavides struggled on the uneven bars.
“When they all hit on the same day, they’re all going to be 38-plus,” Biedrzycki said. “I’m excited for them to do it all on the same day.”
It wasn’t just Burlington’s top three that had a good day, though. Lauren Otter finished sixth on beam with a 9.20, while Ciara Johnson and Jacquie Fiorillo were both solid as well.
“Those next three are really the key to how we place here at the end of the season,” Biedrzycki said.
On Monday night, the Burlington squad traveled to Westosha for a make-up meet against the Falcons, and won 148.2-136.425.
The Demons swept the top two places on every event and took third on both floor and beam as well.
Jenna Fitzpatrick won bars (9.7), beam (9.375) and the all-around with a score of 38.1.
Molly Benavides won vault (9.725) and floor (9.50) and finished second in the all-around with a 37.25 and Bailey Fitzpatrick was third in the all-around with a 36.80.
