The Burlington Combined gymnastics team knew it would be short on varsity numbers this year.
So when senior Lauren Otter went down at Saturday’s tri-meet against Franklin/Muskego/Whitnall/Oak Creek and Kenosha Combined, it definitely wasn’t a good thing.
“She couldn’t finish floor,” said Burlington coach Diane Biedrzycki about Otter, who sprained an ankle. “We had everyone, but we didn’t have her floor.
“And beam hurt us, big time.”
Franklin ended up winning the meet with a total of 147.50, followed by Burlington with 146.425 and Kenosha (137.15).
Burlington also counted four falls off the balance beam, accounting for two points off the team score.
The score was still Burlington Combined’s season-high score. In addition, the team went 1-2-3 in the all-around, with Molly Benavides leading the way with 37.90. Following her were sisters Bailey Fitzpatrick (37.075) and Jenna Fitzpatrick (36.525).
