A sub-par performance on the beam offset several season high scores by individual Wolverine gymnasts as Waterford finished 11th out of 12 teams at the Westosha Central Falcon Invitational Saturday.
Waterford scored a 117.300 in the event won by Franklin Combined with a 146.4250. Burlington was second with 146.0250.
“I was hoping for a little higher, but we took a lot of falls on the beam,” head coach Carrie Buelow said. “We dropped about three (points) on beam.”
There were some bright spots, though, for the Wolverine girls.
The team had a season high on the bars because of new skills added to the routines.
“It showed,” Buelow said. “We went up two points.”
Sam Dziak scored season high points in beam, bars and the all-around.
Buelow spoke highly of Dziak’s performance.
“She hadn’t been feeling well the week before, so it was very impressive,” Buelow said. “She’s tough.”
Samantha Jahnke had a season high on the floor.
“She had a really nice routine,” Buelow noted.
Buelow had hoped to have injured Ambria Noll back after the extended Christmas break, but said Noll still has not been cleared by doctors. Buelow is still hopeful she’ll have Noll back before season end.
“Right now it’s wait and see,” she said.
Waterford traveled to Whitewater for a dual meet Tuesday. Results of that meet were unavailable at news deadline.
The Wolverine gymnasts will have a break for finals before hosting Jefferson in a dual meet Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 6:30 p.m.
