Depleted lineup can’t hold off Pewaukee
Behind the 16-strikeout performance of pitcher Adam Dominick, the Pewaukee Muskies continued the recent domination of the Western Division in the Land O’ Lakes grand championship playoffs by shutting out the Burlington Rotary Barons 7-0 Saturday.
The Western Division has now won nine of the past 11 LO’L grand championships. It was Burlington’s first trip to the Grand Championship Series title game.
Dominick was dominant against Burlington’s depleted lineup (the result of college players returning to school). He did not allow a base runner until Justin Mollie drew a walk to lead off the third inning. Zach Borkowski got the first of three Burlington hits in the fifth inning. The other hits belonged to Ryan Hoffman (double) and Joey Hodkiewics (single).
Pewaukee broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fourth inning. Nick Wichser led off with a single and scored on Brock Guetzke’s home run. Greg Harder followed with a single and scored on Tom Zimmerman’s infield grounder.
A single by John Sarcia and sacrifice fly by Guetzke accounted for two Pewaukee runs in the fifth inning. In the Pewaukee sixth, a run scored with Brandon Werner’s infield grounder was thrown away. Pinch hitter Jim Kalupa drove in a run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly.
Nick Wichser had three hits for Pewaukee while Kurt Sarcia added two.
