With a solid performance on the field Tuesday, the Burlington High School softball team advanced in WIAA Division 1 regional action with a 3-1 victory over Stoughton at Stoughton.

Burlington came into this game as the No. 9-seed, while Stoughton was the No. 8 seed.

The difference in this game was the pitching of Burlington hurler Danielle Koenen. Koenen limited Stoughton to just two hits, she walked three, but struck out 15.

Burlington gave Koenen a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, and then added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings for a 3-0 lead.

Stoughton scored its sole run in the bottom of the sixth.

Burlington collected seven hits in this game, with Chyanne Onstad getting two of them.

With the win, the Demon girls have the unenviable task of facing No. 1-ranked Westosha Central on Thursday, May 23, at Paddock Lake. Burlington was soundly defeated by Westosha Central in two games in late April.

Vs. Union Grove

The Demon girls concluded the regular season by finishing a suspended game with Union Grove.

The game had been suspended by rain May 2 with Union Grove leading 4-2 in the top of the fifth and one strike on the Burlington leadoff hitter.

It was concluded May 17, and ended with neither team scoring the remainder of the game.

Danielle Koenen took the loss, giving up the four runs on 11 hits. She walked two and struck out two.

The loss gave the Demons an overall record of 7-17 and a Southern Lakes Conference mark of 4-10.
