Standouts for the week of Feb. 15, 2013

Male Athlete of the Week

Carson Biedrzycki, Burlington High School boys basketball: Anything the Burlington High School boys basketball team has needed, Carson Biedrzycki seems to deliver.

Biedrzycki scored 31 points Feb. 5 in a 49-44 victory over Elkhorn, then scored 18 on the road Friday night at BHS downed Badger, 63-57.

In a 68-49 loss to Case at the Bradley Center Monday, Biedrzycki scored 17 points.

The senior is averaging 18.8 points per game for the Demons.

Also considered: Brody Fitzpatrick, Burlington High School wrestling; Kody Azarian, Waterford Union High School wrestling.

Female Co-Athletes of the Week

Samantha Dziak, Waterford Union High School gymnastics: Dziak put together a solid performance Saturday at the Whitefish Bay Invite, taking sixth in the all-around of the White Division with a score of 34.025.

Dziak’s highest finish was taking second on vault with a score of 9.0. She also tied for sixth on floor with an 8.525, finished eighth on beam with an 8.45 and ninth on bars with an 8.05.

As a team, Waterford finished fourth and tied its season high score of 122.975.

Team of the Week

Union Grove Union High School boys basketball: Coming off a loss at home to Burlington, the Broncos could’ve folded and let the rest of the regular season get away from them.

Instead, the Broncos responded with a pair of quality victories last week.

On Feb. 5, Union Grove dominated against Waterford, allowing the Wolverines just two first-quarter points en route to a 55-30 victory.

Then on Friday, Union Grove defeated a solid squad at Elkhorn, 53-32. Elkhorn was held to single-digit scoring in each of the four quarters, while Union Grove finished with three in double figures – Jacob Fink with 15, Andrew Kazikowski with 14 and Alex Hale with 11.

Then on Tuesday night, the Broncos defeated Wilmot, 42-40, ensuring Burlington High School at least a share of the Southern Lakes Conference title. With the win Tuesday night, Union Grove evened its SLC record at 6-6.

High school bowling

For the first time since the program because nearly 10 years ago, the Burlington High School bowling teams will be sending both its boys and girls teams to state.

The state tournament is March 1-3 at Dales Weston Lanes in Schofield.

Casey Ahler, Zach Chernouski, Ethan Witterholt, Cody Lamarr, Forrest Block, Josh Hall, Jordan Hintz and Dalton Yurske will represent the BHS boys, while Elisabeth Kramer, Kelsi Harris, Robyn Conrad, Tabetha Stephens, Megan Schmidt, Amanda McGrew, Tiffany Block, Rachel Briggs, Hanna Witterholt and Hanna Hayes will represent the girls.

Kramer ended the 2012-13 District 3A season as the top-ranked girl in the district.

The Demon girls are coached by Kelly Millard and Cotie Holbeck, while the BHS boys are coached by Steve Enger and Jerry Reimer.

At the state tournament, all teams will bowl a qualifying-round of 15 Baker games (five bowlers bowling two frames per game). The top five teams in total pins will qualify for the stepladder finals.

To help offset the cost of traveling to state, the team will be running several fundraisers. To help, please contact Theresa Reimer at Towne and Country Lanes at 262-763-7333.
