The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team, one of the most dominant programs in Division III in the nation, will have some local flavor this fall.
Three Waterford natives, Jordan Gruettner, Marshall Rutherford and Brandon Tamsett, are on the roster.
Gruettner is a sophomore phy ed major, Rutherford is a senior biology major and Tamsett, a sophomore, is an occupational safety major.
With an experienced defensive line and talented offensive line, the Warhawks will look to continue their current winning streak.
“I’ve been very pleased with the season so far,” said Lance Leipold, head football coach. “The conference will still be challenging, but with our dedicated work ethic and great attitude, nothing is impossible.”
The Warhawks defeated their first two opponents – Washington University (St. Louis) and Buffalo State College, by a combined score of 72-21. They play Waldorf College on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m. at Perkins Stadium.
“We’re all very excited about the upcoming games and competing for the championship,” said Leipold. “We’re very fortunate for past success in recent years, and we’re aiming to repeat that success.”
When the players are not on the field, they are giving back to the community. The UW-Whitewater football team hosts fitness programs for elementary school students, as well as participating in Reading with the Warhawks, a program where players read to children in the community.
Just a question….WHEN did Jordan Gruettner ever play for Waterford High School?
Here’s the original press release from UWW. Thanks.
