It was a rough day Monday for the Waterford Union High School boys tennis team at the Waukesha South sub-sectional.
The Wolverines won just one match, and were unable to qualifying anyone to Wednesday’s sectional meet.
“The team fought hard, but no players were able to advance,” said coach Mike Schuster.
The No. 2 doubles team of Johnny Nelson and Matt Wolke beat Burlington’s Noah Ehlen and Dylan Kleitsch 6-0, 6-4, but then lost to Nate Simon and Mickey Nguyen of Waukesha West, 6-1, 6-0.
The only other Waterford player to win a set was Harry Soeder at No. 4 singles. After losing the opening set 6-3 to Kevin Thimer of Mukwonago, Soeder came back and won the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-4. He then lost the third set 6-0.
No. 1 singles player Nathaniel Brockmann, No. 2 singles player Ryan Engler, No. 3 singles player Alex Bluemel, the No. 1 doubles team of Konnor Beulier and Zack Crafton and the No. 3 doubles team of Alex Kaiser and Adam Nelson all lost in straight sets.
