A 2-1 win over Racine St. Catherine’s Tuesday gave the Burlington High School girls soccer team its fifth win in the last six games. It also raised the Demons record to 5-2 overall this season.

Merin Mundt scored Burlington’s first goal off an assist from Lindsay Kraemer. It was Mundt’s sixth goal this season.

Mundt was a factor in the second goal as well, as she got the assist on a goal by Katie Travis.

Both Burlington goals were scored in the first half, as was St. Catherine’s goal.

Neither team scored in the second half as the Demon defense made the one-goal lead stand up.

East Troy invite

The Demon girls took second at the East Troy invite Saturday, winning its first two matches by 1-0 scores, before losing in the championship game 3-2.

An unassisted goal by Emily Mundt was the only score in the opening 1-0 win over East Troy.

In the second game, a goal by Madi Ibarra, off an assist from Merin Mundt, gave the Demons a 1-0 victory over Franklin.

That put the Demon girls into the championship game against Mukwonago. Mukwonago edged Burlington 3-2 with Merin Mundt and Emily Mundt scoring the two Demon goals.

“After a full week of games, I knew we needed to improve our defense,” head coach Joel Molitor said. “I thought we did that. Sydney McCourt and Tegan Rock worked well together in the middle, and Madi Ibarra had great success on the wing.”

In addition, Molitor said that Merin Mundt overcame a rough tackle and injury during the Mukwonago game.

“The girls did well to keep their heads when things did not go our way during the championship game,” Molitor said. “I was proud of their attitudes and demeanor.”

Vs. Union Grove

On Thursday at Union Grove, Burlington defeated the Broncos 4-0 to improve to 2-0 in Southern Lakes Conference action.

The Demons scored three first-half goals to take a 3-0 lead at the half. Merin Mundt started the scoring with an assist from Rock.

McCourt scored the next two goals, with the first one unassisted and the second off an assist from Alli Zeman.

In the second half, Merin Mundt scored once again, this time with an assist to Travis.

“We played well enough to win, but we need to improve defensively,” Molitor said.

Molitor added that Tanya Schilling has played very well in goal.

“Her leadership has been crucial,” Molitor said.

Burlington will host Wilmot at 6:30 p.m. in an SLC game tonight.

The Demon girls will participate in the Racine County Invite to be held Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, at Waterford High School.
