With six victories, and 13 second- to fifth-place finishes, the Waterford High School girls track and field squad easily won the Racine Park Indoor Track Invitational April 2.
“We dominated pretty well,” head coach Jerry Glisch said. “It was a great meet.”
The Wolverine girls tallied 70.5 points, with Park taking second with 56 points.
Jenny Gilbreath earned two of the six victories, winning the 60-meter dash in 7.63 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 15 feet two inches.
“Pretty par for the course for her,” Glisch noted.
Hannah Zimmerman garnered one win, plus a second-place and fifth-place finish.
Zimmerman won the 200-meter dash in 28.62 seconds, took second in the long jump (14-02.25) behind Gilbreath, and fifth in the high jump with a leap of 4-04.
“She is an extremely interesting kid to watch,” Glisch said. “She has a tremendous amount of ability.”
Glisch added that even though she is just a sophomore, Zimmerman will be a key contributor this season, a well as in seasons to come.
Corey Pfankuch won the 55-meter hurdles in 9.97 seconds and followed that up with a second-place finish in the 56-meter intermediate hurdles (10.04 seconds).
“She’s looking good,” Glisch said. “She’s working at attacking the hurdles.”
Glisch noted that the team has not been at full strength yet this season, but should be at the upcoming meets.
Both the boys and girls squads competed in the Badger Quad on Thursday at Lake Geneva.
Next week, the Southern Lakes Conference relays will be held on Monday, April 15, at Elkhorn.
On Friday, April 19, the Wolverines will compete in the Westosha Central Invitational at Paddock Lake.
