The Waterford High School gymnastics squad got its second dual win of the season Jan. 31, defeating Elkhorn at Elkhorn 122.975 to 122.30.

“We’ve put in all of their skills now,” noted head coach Carrie Buelow. “So we’re just trying to have clean routines without falls.”

The 122.975 score was the best of the season for the Wolverines, who also had team high scores for the season in the vault and floor exercise.

The team’s worst performance of the night came on the balance beam, where they had two falls. Nevertheless, Sam Dziak won that event with an excellent 9.100 score. That was a season high score on beam for Dziak.

Dziak also had season high scores on floor exercise (9.000), vault (8.950) and all-around (34.600).

Dziak was second in the all-around to Elkhorn’s Randi Fuller. Fuller won the vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise.

Rachel Szeklinksi and Lauren Dziak took second and fourth, respectively, in the vault.

“It was their first time trying the new vaults,” Buelow noted. “We just need to clean them up.”

Sam Jahnke, Alexis Walkowski and Lauren Dziak placed right behind Sam Dziak in the floor exercise to give the Wolverines second through fifth places

Sandra Kinzer was third in the balance beam.

“I think everybody as a team came together,” Buelow said.

The gymnasts will participate in the Whitefish Bay Invitational on Saturday. The Southern Lakes Conference Meet will be held Friday, Feb. 15 at Jefferson.

Buelow noted that sophomore Ambria Noll, who has been out all season with an injury, will be back on varsity for the Whitefish Bay Invitational. Noll competed on the junior varsity squad at Elkhorn and has been practicing recently.

“She did really well,” Buelow said.
