Tennis team grabs fourth at county tourney

The Waterford High School boys tennis team finished fourth May 2 in the Racine County Invitational. Matches were contested at Racine Case High School and in Wind Point at The Prairie School.

Andy Yoder and Nate Bucholtz advanced to the title match at No. 3 doubles, but lost to Prairie’s Chase Phillips and Kurt Ringwalt 6-1, 6-0 and finished second.

Adam Nelson and Andrew Brockman at No. 1 doubles finished third with a 7-6, 6-4 defeat of Case’s Ben Rauenbuehler and Jonathan Mills in the third-place match.

Harry Soeder, at No. 1 singles for Waterford, finished fourth after losing to St. Catherine’s Patrick Anderson 6-1, 6-0 in the third-place match.

Ben Gasiorowski finished fifth at No. 2 singles, beating Burlington’s Dominic James 6-2, 6-2 in the fifth-place match.

Ben Ulland at No. 3 singles also finished fifth after beating Union Grove’s Austin Westberg 6-3, 6-1 in the fifth-place match.

At No. 2 doubles, Dominic Mamerow and Josh Kollenbroich finished fifth after beating Horlick’s Subhan Umar and Jacob Lucareli 6-1, 6-1 in the fifth-place match.

Waterford scored a total of 12 points. Prairie won the invite with 42 points. Burlington and Union Grove tied for second (16), Horlick finished fifth (10) and Case sixth (8). St. Catherine’s finished seventh (6) and Park eighth (2).

The Wolverines lost 4-3 to Badger in a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet April 30 at Lake Geneva. Soeder at No. 1 singles, Brockman at No. 3 singles and Yoder and Bucholtz at No. 3 doubles won for Waterford.

Waterford beat Union Grove 4-3 April 28 in a SLC meet at home. Soeder at No. 1 singles and Brockman at No. 4 singles won for Waterford, as did Mamerow and Kollenbroich at No. 2 doubles and Yoder and Bucholtz at No. 3 doubles.

Waterford played a SLC match Thursday Delavan-Darien, and plays another conference match Monday at Elkhorn.
