The Burlington Baseball Hall of Fame ceremony featured sunny skies, old friends and good baseball Sunday at Ginger Beaumont Field in Burlington.
After the induction ceremony of Stan Heiligenthal and William Kruckman, who were both represented by family members, the Burlington Rotary Barons kept the good vibes going with a well-played, back-and-forth affair against the rival East Troy Express.
Burlington got solid pitching from three hurlers and timely hitting late to register a 5-2 win.
The Barons improved to 9-2 overall this season.
Player-coach Ryan Hoffman had two hits, including a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth to make it 3-2.
Taylor Meseberg went 4-for-4 to lead the Barons offensively, and Genoa City native Colton Andresen, a 2013 Lake Geneva Badger High School graduate, earned the win on the mound.
Colton Lee picked up his first save, and Karl Richter started on the hill and fired five scoreless innings.
The Express dropped to 8-4.
Both teams represent the Land O’Lakes Southwest Division.
The Barons took the lead for good in the sixth.
Tied at 1-1, Westosha Central graduate Marshall Gilbert led off with a single followed by a Paul Archambault single. Archambault was erased on a Dane Helnore fielder’s choice.
Helnore stole second, and Hoffman doubled on an 0-2 pitch to drive in both runs.
The Barons added two insurance runs in the eighth with two outs on three consecutive hits.
Hoffman doubled again, then Meseberg followed with his fourth hit of the game to drive in Hoffman.
Meseberg advanced to second on an error on the play, and Nolan Friend singled up the middle to score Meseberg.
Burlington exacted a measure of revenge on East Troy, which topped the Barons, 3-1, July 7.
