MADISON – While the rest of the Catholic Central boys basketball team struggled throughout the first half, leading scorer Ben Heiligenthal kept the Toppers in the game Friday morning in a WIAA Division 5 state semifinal at the Kohl Center.

The 6-foot-3 senior scored the team’s first six points, and Catholic Central closed the first half on an 11-0 run to open a 17-10 advantage over Barneveld at halftime.

Junior Cole Pankau scored six consecutive points before Andrew Kempken closed the half with one of two free throws.

Heiligenthal has six points and five rebounds at the half.

Defensively, the team tallied four steals.
