The Waterford Union High School football team will open its season tonight against West Allis Hale at home at 7 p.m.
The Wolverines are coming off a 10-2 season last year that saw them finish with a 6-1 record in the Southern Lakes Conference, with their only loss to conference champion Badger.
Waterford has 20 seniors on this year’s squad, including quarterback Matt Korman. Also back is junior running back Ben Michalowski, who led the team in rushing last year with more than 800 yards on 108 attempts.
The team is coached by Adam Bakken, who is entering his sixth year as head coach. Bakken could not be reached for comments for this season preview.
After opening at home, the Wolverines will hit the road to Racine Case Friday, Aug. 26.
The team opens Southern Lakes Conference play Friday, Sept. 2 at Wilmot Union High School, and then will host Burlington Thursday, Sept. 8.
The Wolverines will then host Elkhorn Sept. 16, travel to Westosha Central Sept. 23 and host Union Grove Sept. 30 before heading to Delavan-Darien Oct. 7.
The final game of the season will be Friday, Oct. 14 at home against Lake Geneva Badger.
