On the mound or at the plate, Klein dominated

There are those young people who are already grieving for opportunities lost during the ongoing pandemic.
Don’t count Morgan Klein in their ranks. The senior-to-be at Burlington High School excelled at softball as a junior after losing her sophomore season to the pandemic.
Her senior season – her swan song with the Demons – bears watching.
“It’s pretty far away, but the goal is obvious,” Klein said. “You want to go to state. I just want to enjoy my last season. It’s going to be my last season for high school, and you can’t get that back.
“My main goal is to live in the moment.”
Klein is the Southern Lakes Newspapers 2021 All-Area softball team Player of the Year. SLN’s coverage area of weekly publications includes 15 high schools, and the team is compiled from those players.
Klein earned First Team honors on the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association All-State team for large schools.
She also earned All-District honors for the WFSCA’s District Four. Klein earned First Team All-Southern Lakes Conference honors, and is the conference’s Player of the Year.
Demons coach Valerie Auseth called Klein a dominant player on both offense and defense.
“Morgan was a true leader in all ways – statistically, work ethic and as a teammate,” Auseth said. “She works hard day in and day out, and is always pushing herself and her teammates to become better players.”
Klein said she’s played softball since age five or six, and remembers her first team being the Prairie Dogs in Burlington. Klein also plays club softball. This interview took place via phone from Salt Lake City as she and her family trekked home.
Klein pitched and played left field for the Demons last season – which only ended about a month ago due to the start being pushed back as part of the modified spring season.
